Northern Lights Festival Boréal is actively fundraising, which means big plans for the summer festival! Despite fairly harsh weather, NLFB recently hosted a successful Oktoberfest celebration, and is expanding on one of the elements of that event.
On November 28th, NLFB will hold “Sudbury`s Biggest Beer Pong Tournament”, and is inviting all Sudbury players to compete for the chance to win $50,000.

For those not familiar with the game, beer pong is a party game that involves tossing a ping pong ball into a cup filled with water or beer. Professionally, the game is played as a game of skill, with cups of water, although beer is certainly served. It has evolved from a college dorm phenomenon into a game of skill with a world championship, held in Las Vegas. The winning team of SudburyBiggest Beer Pong Competition will be flown to Las Vegas to compete in the international “World Series of Beer Pong”, with a whopping $50,000 grand prize.
“It might seem a little wild for a Northern Lights fundraiser,” says Max Merrifield, Executive Director of NLFB, “but we saw the cult following this game had at our Oktoberfest event and we figured ‘why not?’. It’s fun, it’s unique, and we think it’s going to be a big hit!”
The competition is to be held at Sudbury Events Centre (19 Regent St.), and also includes a rockin’ DJ dance party for spectators, team supporters and party animals. Other than qualifying for the international competition, organizers are promising a selection of prizes for other teams, including prizes for best team costume, oldest team, and many more.
“Some might not realize how insanely popular this beer pong thing has become,” says event organizer Mark Varrin, “we’ve already heard about teams coming in from other cities to compete, so we are challenging Sudburians to bring their ‘A’ game!” The Sudbury event is sanctioned by Bpong.com – the international authority on the game and presenters of the World Series championship.
In order to register for the event, teams must sign up in advance at www.sudburysbest.com, or in person at the NLFB Office (19 Grey St. – 705-674-5512). Registration forms and ticket sales will go live on Tuesday, November 11th.
Tickets to the event also include a complimentary Sudbury Transit ride, and can also be purchased at in person at Fromagerie Elgin, Gloria’s Convenience, Jett Landry Music, Walden Home Hardware and at the NLFB office, or on-line at www.sudburysbest.com or www.nlfbsudbury.com. The event will kick off at 6pm on Friday, November 28th, with the competition beginning at roughly 9pm.

NLFB Beer Pong Tourney ignites a competitive spirit
Northern Lights Festival Boréal is hosting Sudbury’s Biggest Beer Pong Tournament tomorrow night (Nov. 28th) at the Sudbury Events Centre (19 Regent St.). The response to this event has been monumental and a ton of teams have signed up, hoping to qualify for the World Series and win $50k.
Companies, media outlets and other organizations have steadily been registering their ‘corporate teams’ for a shot at the coveted ‘Corporate Cup’. The ferocity of the competitive spirit has become so intense that teams have been publicly challenging each other, and have been getting everyone riled up for the competition!
Here’s one example: Yesterday the Northern Life community newspaper released a video showing their staff training furiously for the event and showing off some of their pong skills. Although the video did not call out any specific teams, other corporate teams clearly took this as a challenge. Their video can be viewed here: https://tr.im/9dd05.
In an act of defiance, local country station Kicx 91.7 immediately released a video challenging the Northern Life’s claim to supremacy, and increasing the level of competitive tension. The video demonstrates a cartoon-like fight scenario that leaves a character representing Northern Life ‘in the dust’. The video concludes with the words ‘Bring It!’- a powerful challenge to all other corporate teams out there. Their video can be viewed here: https://tr.im/4ef2f.
Why is the competition so fierce? The tournament champions will be flown to Vegas in early January to compete in the World Series of Beer Pong, which has a $50k grand prize attached. This event leads right into the highest level of competition the game has to offer. The ‘Corporate Cup’ has become much desired among the corporate teams. As anybody who has ever played a round of beer pong knows, the game is all about bragging rights.
NLFB is encouraging any team (corporate or not) who would like a piece of the action to head to www.bpong.ca to register their team. The event is a fierce competition but also a party for competitors and spectators alike. It will include DJ dance tunes, a ton of prizes for various teams, and of course beer will be served.
